If you’ve walked in the front door of White Properties only to be confronted with the biggest, friendliest smile you’ve ever seen, then you know we’re talking about this month’s Employee Spotlight, Madelyn! Madelyn was born in Honduras. Her family, including her two younger sisters, moved to Alexandria, VA when she was just 9 years old. Madelyn is a new bride of just six months! She married this past May.
Let’s here more from Madelyn!
Q: How long have you been with WP? What is your role?
A: I’ve worked at WP for over a year. I am currently the assistant manager and front desk manager. I’m the only Spanish speaking employee at WP.
Q: Do you have a funny story you can tell us since working at WP?
A: Yes! Once a co-worker almost scared me to death! It was closing time and I had to use the bathroom. The co-worker and I were the only ones in the building, so it was really quiet. When I was coming out of the bathroom, I walked out intending to scare him, thinking that he might try to scare me. That didn’t work out as planned. He, Brandon, hid underneath another co-workers desk. He jumped out and scared me! I’m just thankful this happened “after” I went to the bathroom!
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: We have a 1 year old Chihuahua named Chloe. She’s extremely smart and playful!
Q: I’m happiest when?
A: I’m happiest when I get to sleep in! It’s rare, but when I get the chance to have a lazy day with my husband, I’m a happy girl!
Q: My Biggest Fear(s)?
A: I HATE bugs with a passion! If it has more than 2 legs, I don’t like it! Specifically if it flies, with the exception of ladybugs and fireflies. 🙂
Q: What are your biggest pet peeves?
A: Messes! I hate having a mess around me. It makes me anxious and frustrates me when I look for things. I like having a little system and a designated place for everything.
Q: Who inspires you and why?
A: The Capable Wife of Proverbs 37:10-31. I am inspired to be a great wife like the wife that is described in these verses.
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: I like sharing good news with people. Every year, my goal is to volunteer 840 hours of spreading what good news the bible has for them. It makes me happy to see how hope is brought to an individual’s life.
Q: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
A: When I was 5, my friend dared me to climb up our terrace and climb over the protective railing which faced the street. He dared me to stand on it for as long as I could. My foot got stuck and I almost fell two stories. Good thing that didn’t happen, but my mother still wasn’t very happy with me! I was grounded for a very loooong time!
Q: Your favorite TV show growing up, and now?
A: As a kid, I loved everything on Boomerang (Power Puff Girls, Cow and Chicken, the Jetson’s, etc). I would have to say Grey’s Anatomy is my favorite now. I could watch it all day long.
Q: What store could you max out your credit card on?
A; TJ Maxx and/or MAC. My husband does not allow me to go to either without him. I go in for one thing, and come out with everything but! I saw something on the internet once that I could relate to this. It was something like, “TJ Maxx, the store that will tell you what you need.”
Q: If you could pick one, what would be your super power?
A: The power to fly! I hate sitting in traffic.
Q: Favorite food?
A: Couscous. It’s a pasta that originates from India, but it’s also popular in the Honduras capital. Add chicken and condiments and it’s delicious! In Spanish it’s called Marmahon.
Q: Favorite vacation spot?
A: The OBX. I got engaged there, so it’s my happy place to vacation.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: Up, even though it’s a kids movie. I’ve seen it many times, but I still cry every time I watch it.
Q: Favorite Quote?
A: Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed with strength and splendor, and she looks to the future with confidence”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years”
A: I see myself somewhere warm. Somewhere where it doesn’t snow. I hope we can make that happen.
